The Minotaur

The Minotaur is a half man half bull beast. It lived in the labyrinth, a maze built to contain him so he would not hurt anybody.

The Minotaur And Theseus

King Minos of Crete attacked Athens quite often, so the Athenian king told Minos that if he stopped battling Athens, the Athenian king would send 7 boys and 7 girls to be fed to the Minotaur every 9 years. 9 years later prince Theseus went to Crete as one of the 7 boys. Minos' daughter Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of string. When Theseus went into the labyrinth he unrolled the string until he found the Minotaur. Then he killed the Minotaur and followed the string back to the door where he had entered the labyrinth from. Then Theseus sailed away with Ariadne, but left the beautiful princess sleeping on the island of Naxos.

The Minotaurs Birth

Poseidon gave King Minos a white bull that was supposed to be sacrificed to Poseidon. Instead Minos decided to keep it. So as a punishment Poseidon made Minos' wife, Pasiphaƫ, fall in love with the bull. She and the bull's baby was the Minotaur.
